Day Trip To Brighton
Today was the day trip to Brighton, a cute little sea town just south of London. We met up with people from our program to catch a bus at 8:15am. We took the bus to St. Pancras Station in order to catch the train to Brighton. We were all excited to take the train for the first time. We were expecting something like the Hogwarts Express from Harry Potter, but it was just like the tube only above ground. It was still a fun way to travel. We arrived in Brighton at about 11am and took a tour of the Royal Pavilion. It was a very old and beautiful building. Unfortunately, once again, we were not allowed to take pictures inside. After the self-guided tour we were free to explore the town.
Our first stop was a fish and chips place called Harry Ramsden. We got the meal to go and walked across the street to sit at the beach by the pier. The beach in Brighton consists of pebbles, not sand. This made it easy to sit and eat there. However, there are a ton of Seagulls there and they are vicious. Our poor friend had her whole piece of fish stolen right out of the box. All the birds swooped down and swarmed us for the remainder of our meal. After we finished lunch we decided to walk along the pier.
The pier was really cute and had a lot of little shops and ice cream places. They had some rides and an arcade at the end that was also cool. It was like something from the movies. Then we headed to an upside down house. It was so bizarre to walk inside to see everything on the ceiling. It was really funny trying to figure out the best way to pose for photos to make it look like we were hanging upside down. We got kind of dizzy walking through the house because it was at a slant, and going up the stairs was quite the task.
Our next task was trying to find the famous Brighton beach huts. We could not find any information online, so we decided to just head in the direction we thought they would be. We ended up walking for about 20 minutes, but we finally found them. The walk was so worth it. The huts were so cute and they were all different colors. After taking some photos, we walked back to meet up with our flatmates for dinner. We decided to find a place for dinner on our walk back to the train station. We found a restaurant called, Tortilla which was very good. After dinner we got back on the train to head home. Today was a very fun day. We all really enjoyed Brighton! But of course, it wouldn’t be a Clark excursion without getting sunburned. England weather is tricky. -SYD & SAM
